Hey there, folks! This is Captain Ryan Carter checking in with your weekly inshore fishing report from beautiful Key West, Florida. I’m excited to share that we’ve been experiencing some exceptional action out on the water, particularly around our productive patch reefs.
This week has been absolutely stellar in the 10-30 foot depths, where we’re finding a fantastic variety of species. Our clients have been consistently hooking into quality mutton snapper, alongside some aggressive mangrove snapper. The yellowtail bite has been particularly strong, and we’re seeing some hefty yellow jacks keeping our anglers busy. One of the highlights this week was landing a keeper black grouper, which really made our day out there.
Live pilchards continue to be the absolute knockout bait – these little guys are proving irresistible to our target species. For those interested in the technical setup, we’re finding great success with our 10# Esky spinning rods paired with 4000 size reels. We’re spooling these up with 20# braided line, which gives us the perfect combination of sensitivity and strength for these waters.
Speaking of action, the shark fishing in the channels has been nothing short of fantastic. While lemon sharks are dominating the scene – and providing some incredible fights – we’ve also tangled with several powerful bull sharks that really tested our gear and got the adrenaline pumping. These predators are giving our clients some unforgettable battles and photo opportunities.
If you’re planning to get out on the water, this is definitely the time to do it. The conditions have been cooperating, and the fish are more than willing to play. As always, remember to handle these beautiful creatures with care and respect.
Until next week, tight lines and stay safe out there! This is Captain Ryan Carter, signing off from the Florida Keys in Key West.
