KEY WEST TRIPLE THREAT: Silver Kings, Mangroves & Permit Creating Epic Spring Action

Hey anglers! Captain Ryan Carter checking in with your comprehensive weekly inshore report from Key West, Florida.

MANGROVE SNAPPER: These delicious predators continue to dominate the backcountry shallows in impressive numbers. We’re finding consistent action around mangrove shorelines, channel edges, and smaller patch reefs. These aggressive feeders are readily taking small pilchards, chunks of shrimp, and even well-presented artificial offerings during moving tides. Quality fish in the 12-16 inch class have been the norm, perfect for those looking to put together a memorable fish dinner.

TARPON ACTION RED HOT: The silver king bite is absolutely on fire right now! We’re encountering consistent opportunities with fish averaging an impressive 70 pounds. These world-class gamefish are showing predictable patterns throughout the harbor, channels, and backcountry basins. While live pinfish remains the premium offering, these hungry tarpon are also eagerly taking grunts, cut bait, crabs, and mullet. Artificial enthusiasts are connecting with spectacular strikes using black or white 7-10 inch Hogy lures – the visual explosions on these presentations have been nothing short of spectacular!

PERMIT OPPORTUNITIES: For those seeking one of flats fishing’s ultimate challenges, the permit fishing is producing quality opportunities when weather allows offshore access. The reef structures have been holding good numbers of these selective fighters. A properly presented crab or well-placed jig can result in that permit of a lifetime when conditions align.

With our seasonal patterns becoming more established and migratory species arriving in force, now is prime time to experience Key West’s legendary spring fishing!

Tight lines from paradise, Captain Ryan Carter
