The fishing scene in Key West is firing on all cylinders as perfect weather conditions create an angler’s paradise across our pristine waters. Water temperatures have stabilized into the ideal range, triggering aggressive feeding behavior across multiple species and setting up what could be one of our most productive spring seasons in recent memory.
We’re experiencing the best cobia run I’ve seen in over five years. These powerful fish are holding on virtually every shallow-water structure, providing incredible sight-fishing opportunities for our clients. As responsible stewards of this fishery, we’re practicing selective harvesting – taking just a couple fish before moving on to other species. Remember, a single keeper cobia yields plenty of premium fillets for the dinner table.
Both mutton and mangrove snapper are showing up in impressive numbers, with many fish well above average size. We’re finding consistent action around structure, with these tasty predators eagerly taking live baits and cut chunks. The quality of fish has been exceptional, with many muttons pushing the upper end of the typical size range.
The jack crevalle bite has been nothing short of spectacular. These powerful gamefish are crushing virtually any offering, from topwater plugs to subsurface artificials. When you locate a school, expect non-stop action and screaming drags. These bulldogs of the flats provide some of the most exciting light-tackle action you’ll find anywhere.
With water temperatures in the sweet spot, the tarpon bite has been steadily improving. We’re seeing more rolling fish each day, suggesting the early stages of our legendary spring tarpon run might be starting to take shape. These silver kings are providing spectacular aerial displays and testing both tackle and anglers.
February traditionally offers some of Key West’s most comfortable fishing conditions, with pleasant temperatures and stable weather patterns. This combination creates the perfect environment for targeting multiple species in a single trip. Whether you’re looking to bend rods with hard-fighting jacks, target trophy cobia, or fill the cooler with premium snapper fillets, now is the time to get on the water.
Morning trips have been most productive for cobia and snapper, while afternoon sessions are perfect for targeting rolling tarpon. Full-day trips give us the best opportunity to target multiple species. Book your February fishing adventure today and experience why Key West is considered one of the world’s premier fishing destinations.
