Hey there, fellow anglers! Captain Ryan Carter checking in with your weekly inshore fishing report straight from the beautiful waters of Key West, Florida. I’m excited to share that our fishing scene is heating up nicely as we move through the season.
The back country basins have been providing consistent action that’ll keep your rod bent and your spirits high. We’re seeing a fantastic mix of species, with some quality speckled trout making appearances, along with high-energy ladyfish that’ll test your drag and acrobatic jacks that never fail to put on a show. If you’re heading out there, I can’t recommend enough throwing an artificial shrimp rigged on a jig head – this setup has been absolutely deadly. The key has been working these lures with a slow retrieve, letting them dance naturally through the water column.
Moving offshore a bit, the shallow wrecks continue to be absolute fish magnets. These structures are holding good numbers of snappers, and while the groupers we’re catching are on the smaller side, they’re providing steady action. Yellow jacks are also making their presence known, giving anglers some serious battles. Live bait has been the ticket here – these fish know what they want, and they’re not shy about taking it when presented properly.
Speaking of excitement, my friend Captain Justin has been dialed into the tarpon bite this week, putting his clients on some silver kings. With water temperatures holding steady above 70 degrees, we’re expecting the tarpon fishing to only get better as more fish move into our waters. This is particularly encouraging as we look ahead to the coming weeks.
As always, remember to handle these beautiful fish with care and respect our waters. If you’re planning a trip down to the Keys, this is shaping up to be prime time to get out there. Until next week, tight lines everyone!
This is Captain Ryan Carter, signing off from the southernmost point.
