Key West Cobia, Bull Sharks & Red Hot Jack Action: February Fishing Report

The waters around Key West are offering exciting opportunities despite some challenging conditions. We’re currently monitoring a concerning red tide situation pushing south from the Tampa Bay Area into our Gulf waters, though we’re hopeful for a quick dissipation to return to normal fishing patterns.

The highlight this week has been the explosive jack crevalle action. These aggressive feeders are so thick, anglers throwing double-hooked lures are frequently landing two fish at once. The sheer power and number of these fish have been providing non-stop action for our clients.

For those seeking a real battle, our shallow water shark fishing has been exceptional. Bull sharks in the 200+ pound class are abundant right now, offering incredible opportunities for anglers looking to test their strength against these powerful predators.

The back basins continue to produce steady action with a mixed bag of trout, ladyfish, and jacks. We’re finding great success with bucktail jigs, which have been triggering consistent strikes and providing fast-paced entertainment for anglers of all skill levels.

Despite challenging wind conditions, persistent anglers are still connecting with cobia. While we’re encountering numerous undersized fish, the sight-fishing opportunities for these surface-cruising fighters remain excellent. It’s a unique experience watching these curious fish investigate baits near the surface.
