Key West Fishing Report: Action Heating Up Inshore and Nearshore

With winter winds pushing through the Keys, we’re finding consistent action across multiple fishing zones this week. The backcountry basins continue to produce excellent results for anglers working artificial lures, offering that classic Key West variety that keeps rods bent and smiles wide.

Captain Justin has been making the most of the windy conditions by tucking into the lee of the island for some productive bottom fishing. The local wrecks and channels are absolutely loaded right now, serving up a smorgasbord of premium table fare including mangrove, yellowtail, and mutton snapper, along with some hard-fighting yellow jacks and quality grouper.

For those targeting these bottom dwellers, live pilchards and pinfish remain the go-to baits, consistently producing the best results. These natural baits have been the key to unlocking the most productive bites across all species.

Looking ahead, the forecast couldn’t be better with calm winds and perfect 75-degree temperatures on the horizon. These ideal conditions should open up even more opportunities for our upcoming charters this week.

Tight lines,
Capt. Ryan Carter
