Greetings anglers! This is Captain Ryan Carter with your latest fishing update from the waters of Key West, Florida.
Despite the high winds this week, we’ve found some excellent inshore fishing opportunities around the protected mangrove islands and channels. By pitching live bait under the mangrove canopies, my clients have been enjoying great success with a variety of species.
The mangroves have been holding good numbers of feisty mangrove snappers, as well as jacks, barracuda, and even some juvenile tarpon. These hard-fighting fish have provided plenty of exciting action for our anglers.
Additionally, the nearby channels have been teeming with yellowjacks of all sizes. The key to catching these acrobatic fish has been using artificial jigs. Slowly lowering the jig to the bottom and then sharply popping the rod tip seems to trigger some great strikes, as the jacks mistake the jig for a tasty shrimp.
Whether you’re targeting snapper, jacks, or even that elusive silver king, our protected inshore waters have been delivering the goods this week. If you’re looking to experience world-class inshore fishing in Key West, now is the perfect time to book your charter with us.
Tight lines and happy fishing!
Captain Ryan Carter
