Hey guys this is Captain Ryan Carter here giving you the weekly inshore fishing report down in Key West, Florida. This week I want to talk about mutton snappers. Typically in the winter months we average wind speeds around 15 mph which makes those crystal clear waters we are used to just a bit more cloudy. This is very good for snappers that are a very visual feeding fish not see the hook and leader attached to the bait.
Mutton snappers are fantastic eating fish as taco style would be my favorite. The bait of choice would be live pilchards but you can also catch them on pinfish and cut bait. Normally these fish on the reef but we see a lot in the shallow water wrecks and hard bottom from now until May when they spawn. Capt Justin has caught a few this week while targeting yellow jacks in the backcountry.
